LASER & IPL SKIN REJUVENATION

Ageing skin, sun exposure, hormonal changes, skin injuries and inflammation can all cause hyperpigmentation (increase of melanin) and vascular lesions. Skin rejuvenation is a revolutionary skin treatment using multiple laser wavelengths to eliminate and reduce these conditions and is suitable for the face and body.  Our clinical laser uses a variety of technologies including Q-switch laser and E-Light. Elight is a combination of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Radio Frequency (RF), together, IPL and RF energy tighten and tone the skin as an added benefit to the treatment, and gives better results than stand-alone IPL.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN LASER SKIN REJUVENATION TREAT?

IPL and laser skin rejuvenation can treat the following skin concerns.

Pigmentation Variances

Age Spots/Liver Spots

Freckles

Telangiectasias/Broken Capillaries/Thread/spider veins on face or body

Rosacea

Stretch Marks (if red in colour)

Large Pores

Wrinkles

(You are welcome to send a photo of your concern to see if it is treatable with Laser & IPL)

WHAT CAUSES THESE CONDITIONS?

Facial thread veins or broken red veins (telangiectasia) are small unsightly superficial red or purple veins that occur around the nose and across the cheeks and chin. These broken veins occur when the vein dilates and become larger, so they are visible through the transparency of the skin. They are quite common and also found on the body (commonly on legs). These small veins may be hereditary or because of a variety of factors including damage from sun exposure, wind, and the extremes of temperature. The overuse of steroid creams and certain autoimmune conditions may also induce thread veins. Often the exact cause is unknown and may just be part of the natural ageing process or as a part of a skin condition called rosacea.

Sunspots, liver spots, freckles and other unwanted pigmentation are often associated with skin ageing and over exposure to the sun or sunbeds. From the age of about 40 the skin is less able to regenerate from sun exposure and age spots start to appear. Generally, these age spots pose no health risk, however they can be unsightly and create a patchy, less youthful appearance. Freckling and age spots are successfully lightened or removed with Laser or Intense Pulse Light. Large, raised, or dark pigmentation cannot be treated.

Not all pigmentation concerns are as a result of sun exposure and some people are born with pigmented birthmarks or may have melasma, a skin pigmentation condition often associated with pregnancy or hormones. Birthmarks can often be treated with our Q-Switch Laser.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Laser light is absorbed by pigmented areas where it is converted to heat causing a breakup in the pigment.

Elight works to treat red thread veins by firing short bursts of light into the affected area. This light is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the veins causing the tiny blood vessels to break down and be reabsorbed by the body. Elight effectively treats thread veins while minimising harmful effects to surrounding healthy tissue.

For wrinkles and skin toning the laser stimulates the fibroblast cells deep within the skin, which will create new collagen re-growth and reformation.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

Often, after the first treatment you will see improvements to broken capillaries, small facial veins, and some pigmented areas within a few days. Other improvements such as wrinkle reduction and toning will be more subtle and may take one to three months. With each subsequent treatment, subtle changes will accumulate until you have achieved the improvement you desire.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

A series of 3-6 treatments spaced 2-4 weeks apart is the standard recommendation. Occasionally, more treatments may be needed for certain individuals or conditions.

WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED IMMEDIATELY POST SKIN REJUVENATION?

Immediately following the procedure, you may experience some redness and swelling which usually dissipates within one to three days. Pigmentation may darken as it comes to the surface of the skin before gradually flaking away over the course of a week. Additionally, hair growth may be impaired in the treated area, although it is not the intended purpose of this particular treatment.

AM I SUITABLE FOR TREATMENT?

Beautiful U requires you to complete a short Medical Questionnaire before you commence any laser or IPL treatments. This will be emailed to you prior to your initial consultation, which allows time to check your suitability, Some conditions or medications prohibit you from laser treatments and would be unsafe for you at that time. It is important for the effectiveness of the treatment that you are generally fit and well and that your immune system is not compromised.

Common medications that may cause photosensitivity can include but are not limited to: Antibiotics Antidepressants Antihistamines Antihypertensives Antiparasitics Antipsychotics Contraceptives Diuretics Hypoglycaemics NSAID and Retinoids. The medical questionnaire will ask you to list any medications inc dosage.

It is not uncommon to request you obtain GP authorisation before treatment can go ahead for some conditions or medications.

During the consultation, the treatment will be discussed fully and a series of 3 small patch tests (at various energies) will be carried out, enabling the correct parameters to be established and check your skin's tolerance to light. Full treatment can then commence 3-14 days later following no adverse reactions.
